APRIL IN REVIEW

Dear Clients and Community,

April brought several public holidays and Easter celebrations, resulting in increased criminal activity as many residents travelled or spent more time away from home. Anticipating these seasonal changes, our team adjusted operations to maintain a strong, visible presence throughout the month. Through targeted patrols, strategic planning, and teamwork, we continued to fight crime, safeguard our clients and community, and uphold the professional standards that define the EC Security family.

In this edition, we share a few highlights from the month and some important tips to help you stay safe at home and on the road, as our environment continues to change around us. Thank you for your continued trust in our team. Please keep our Control Room number handy: 0861 000 626 — our team truly cares, because this community is our home above all else.

Stay safe,
The EC Security Team

Vehicle Wanted in Armed Robbery caught by our Team!

Untitled design (1).png

On Tuesday morning, 1 April 2025, at around 08:20, an LPR camera in our area flagged a sought vehicle in Maraisburg. Thanks to swift coordination between our team and VumaCam, the vehicle was tracked and successfully apprehended in Lazerpark without any community casualties. Our Tactical Team went above and beyond, securing the scene until Traffic Wardens and SAPS arrived. One suspect was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded in connection with an armed robbery case currently under investigation by SAPS.

Team Effort Leads to Important Arrest

On 6 April 2025, our team responded to a call in the Florida area. Information provided led to the identification of a suspect known to SAPS. While engaging with the individual, a firearm—later confirmed to be a replica—was confiscated. SAPS was informed immediately. An altercation with members of the public unfortunately allowed the suspect to flee. Later on the same day, another response call in the same area led to the re-identification of the suspect. Working together, our team managed to detain the individual and hand him over to SAPS for further investigation.

Swift Action Leads to Arrest Following Robbery

On 6 April 2025, our team responded to an incident in the Bergbron and Helderberg area involving the robbery of a 15-year-old boy. The victim reported that a mobile phone and R250 cash had been taken. Acting quickly, one of our officers identified and detained a known suspect in the area. A case of common robbery was opened with the Florida Police Station, and the suspect was placed in custody.

🚗Stay Safe on the Roads This April and May🐣

Easter and the months of April and May are of the most dangerous times to travel on South African roads. With high traffic volumes, tired drivers, and risky behaviour behind the wheel, accidents are sadly all too common during this time. Whether you’re heading out on holiday or visiting loved ones, please take extra care:

🗺️ Plan your trip and give yourself enough time to avoid rushing.

🚫 Stick to the speed limit – no destination is worth the risk.

😴 Take breaks – fatigue is a major cause of accidents.

🍷 Stay sober – never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

🚘 Keep your distance from other vehicles & avoid aggressive driving.

⚠️ Think FOR others – not everyone on the road is focused or thinking clearly, so stay alert and be ready to react safely.

👀 Watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and animals.

Drive smart, stay calm, and take care of one another on the road🌍- Let’s all make it back home safely💛!

🚨Criminals are innovating - Let's stay one step ahead🚨

Criminals are becoming increasingly creative in how they carry out break-ins, often using unexpected methods to bypass security systems. To help protect your home or business, we recommend the following:

  • Secure your gate motor with a full metal casing. This prevents tampering with the mechanism or programming of remotes.

  • Enable gate monitoring. This feature alerts your security provider if your gate is opened or closed outside of normal times.

  • Keep your property well lit. Criminals rely on darkness to move unnoticed—proper lighting is one of the simplest and most effective deterrents.

Crime trends are constantly evolving, which means your security measures should, too. Staying one step ahead is key.

Regional Crime Insights

These insights highlight specific crime trends in certain areas but are not comprehensive. As we do not have access to SAPS or industry-wide data, our reports reflect only incidents linked to our clients. A summary appears first, followed by a suburb-specific breakdown.
